POLIS

While the city of Milan is widely discussed from an urban planning perspective, what’s happening inside homes remains largely unreported.
As in every city dominated by the advanced tertiary sector, smart working is the most disruptive phenomenon affecting the domestic space today.
But what is smart working, which doesn’t seem so “smart” after all?
In 90% of cases, it’s home working: telecommuting where companies externalize costs.
The impact of smart working and the omnipresence of devices in the home is treacherous: the technology that promised “the world in one room” has brought about a psychosocial collapse that we must reckon with.

I will be speaking about this at the headquarters of the Order of Architects of Milan at Via Solferino 19, Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 6:00 PM, as part of “Polis,” an initiative of the Foundation of the Order of Architects of Milan.
