Design a monument needs to research the deep essence of things.
For Lamborghini Road Memorial we investigated the essence of Lamborghini design- its amazing “folds”- by searching the formal origin in the sharp shapes of crystal.
Like a geode, a black monolith reveals a crystalline form inside.
Without any explanation subtext, the monument will reveal to visitors of Sant’Agata Bolognese, the presence of a company that is a myth, before than an automotive industry.
Unlike typical verticality of totems, we decided to experiment an horizontal landmark.
This choice creates a gentle insertion into the Emilian plain landscape, it avoids loading too rhetorically what will become the two “doors” of the village of Sant’Agata Bolognese and ultimately echoes the aerodynamics of the Lamborghini cars, whose profile seems barely rise from asphalt.
The monument is made up of prefabricated concrete blocks (square base 200 x 200 cm, 150 cm tall) that compounds in rows of three, create a square of 6×6 meters.
The blocks come from road construction supply chain and are easily put in place.
Blocks are cut to insert an installation of a heat-sealed glass fiber panels that are supported by an hidden galvanized steel frame.
Panels are backlighted with LED spotlights placed inside the blocks. Through the compositional trick of a small open courtyard in the center of the monument, the installation remains easily accessible for maintenance and hides all technical doors.
The colors of the two monument component were taken from Lamborghini official emblem: a gold bull on dark gray backdrop.
