The fruit bowl AX was born as an experimental research around the technical possibilities of concrete “dynamical casting”.
The evocative power of such concavities created in a natural manner by gravity, directed us towards investigation on the act of holding food. The fruit bowl is composed of two contrasting element, both black and brutal. The concrete vessel with its porous peel embrace and ideally warp itself under the fruit weight.
As legs, four steel blades, penetrate the concrete body, like knife cutting a fruit. Legs high is just sufficient to keep the lower part of the tray half centimeter off the table.
The tray was created with thixotropic fiber-reinforced cement, whose mixture was specially developed for this application. Black pigment was added, in order to emphasizes abstraction.
Cast in a 10 mm frame formwork, before drying it was unarmed and evenly deformed by using a smooth ball. The four steel plates legs are fixed with epoxy glue inside furrows, meticulously cut with a grinder machine directly on the concrete mass. The steel plates edge are bevelled and protected with transparent varnish, while the rest of the surface is treated with beeswax.
